Diwali, also called Deepavali is one of the joyous festivals of India. The festival of lights represents the victory of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.People decorate their homes with diyas and colorful lights, they perform lakshmi puja praying for happiness and prosperity.People wear new clothes and exchange sweets with families and neighbours. The favorite part of the festival is bursting crackers which everyone loves, especially the children.
Ekadaksha Team celebrated this diwali by performing skits conveying messages for a safe diwali and also highlighting the Do's and Dont's which applies not only for the festive season but for everyday life.
Skit - Part 1 - Do's and Dont's for life.
A big picture of the demon Ravana was stuck on the wall.A creative skit was performed with an imagination of the ten headed ravana,a set of heads representing the evil habits and the other set of heads representing the good habits.
First set of children came forward to explain the "Dont's - not to do list" - The children stuck a face for the demon and each face symbolising a bad habit - watching tv,shouting and disturbing others, glued to mobile phone, hurting others. The demon with these set of faces represented the evil and the narrator explained "These are the Dont's and we should try to get rid of these evil from us"
Next came the "Do's - to do list" - The children stuck a face over the evil faces and these faces represented good habits - Focus on healthy habits - reading, coloring with happiness,Love everyone with kindness,Engage in sports/exercise activities,Smile and help others. After these faces were stuck, the narrator explained,"we should overcome the evil within us,try consistently and develop good habits and win over the bad ones".
Thus, the creative skit by the children explained that, both good and bad exist within us and its with our consistent efforts,we should win over the bad ones and nurture the good ones.

Skit - Part 2 - Safe Diwali.
The teachers and children performed small skits to convey the importance of bursting crackers in a safe place.
Two teachers performed a skit, where they enacted and showed, how bursting fire crackers in dense residential areas resulted in spoilage of their clothes that were spread for drying in the open balconies.
The other skit performed by children - Deva and Pandi Ashok along with a teacher, explained how burning of crackers on the roads can disturb the public causing accidents.Bursting crackers in the roads produces a lot of smoke which causes poor visibility for people walking in the roads and for people driving vehicles.Deva and Pandi Ashok enacted an accident scene caused by poor visibility due to smoke and pollution. The teacher then explained that crackers should be burst in safe places like open grounds and big terrace and not in public roads.
